Melrose Attractions are numerous, here is a selection to visits:

Stately Homes are a feature of the area as are the historical border peel towers. Visitors are welcome at:-

• Abbotsford House (home to the author Sir Walter Scott)

• Aikwood Tower
• Monteviot Gardens
• Thirlstane Castle
• Mary Queen of Scots House - Jedburgh
• Smailholm Tower

Walking opportunities are endless be it for a few hours, a full days walk or for those passing through Melrose on one of the long distance walking routes.

• The Eildon Hill walk
• Riverside walks on the Tweed
• Harestanes Country Outdoor centre
• Walking on St Cuthbert's Way, Sir Walter Scott Way (part of SUW), Borders Abbeys Way and the Roman Heritage Way.

Fishing on the River Tweed is famous for its Salmon. Even although you may not have a permit for this there are other rivers, lochs and reservoirs where the visitor will get access to wonderful fishing opportunities. We at Dunfermline House will be able to advise you on locations and availability.

Golf is available to the visitor here in Melrose and at many courses throughout the region. The Borders has two Championship courses at Cardrona and Roxburghe. Be it a championship, 18 hole or 9 hole course you will never be far away when you stay at Dunfermline House.
